July is here and that means we can expect fast food chains to celebrate the upcoming Paris Summer Olympics through their menus in one way or another. Chipotle Mexican Grill is one brand that does this in a big way by doing something special for both the country’s competing athletes and the chain’s customers in the U.S. and abroad.

Chipotle has just rolled out a new digital menu that features meals based on U.S. Olympic athletes’ nutrition requirements as a way to inspire healthy eating during this time when health is of utmost important and plays a crucial role in competitions such as the Olympics. Each menu item is featured in new episodes of Chipotle’s video series called “Unwrapped,” wherein the athletes share how eating real food and real ingredients are the key component of their training regimens that contribute to their success in their respective sports. The digital menu will be available exclusively on the Chipotle app and via Chipotle’s official website.

In addition to this, the brand is also bringing back gold foil-wrapped burritos as a way to show support for U.S. athletes’ aim to bring home the gold medal in each of their competitions. Chipotle’s burritos will start sporting this special packaging for all digital and in-restaurant orders beginning on July 25, just a day before the official kickoff of the Summer Olympics in Paris. Availability will depend on restaurant location, as the limited-edition packaging will be exclusive to participating Chipotle restaurants. The brand will also serve their gold foil burritos at six locations in France, including one in Lyon for the first time.

Team Chipotle and The Unwrapped Series

The rollout of this new digital menu coincides with the launch of new episodes of “Unwrapped,” which is a popular video series by Chipotle that can be viewed online. In the series, the brand goes behind the scenes with its “Team Chipotle 2024,” where each of the brand’s partner athletes shares how they prepare for their tournaments.

Chipotle’s Chief Brand Officer Chris Brandt says that each Team Chipotle athlete has gone through a unique journey, highlighting how Chipotle’s Real Food for Real Athletes program has played a key role in their preparation regimens. From The Club

I admit that I’m a sucker for junkfood, but I do try to eat healthy every opportunity I get. Chipotle seems to be offering me that opportunity and I have to say that this new digital menu sounds like it really packs a lot in terms of nutritional value. I mean, the burritos have like three types of salsas. I like a good salsa so I’d definitely try those, especially the Sarah Hughes one. I’m also interested to try the burrito bowls as well, those sound really filling too. It’s also interesting to me how a lot of fast food chains are promoting in-app purchases this summer. Obviously, it’s to boost Chipotle’s digital sales and I’m not complaining, it’s just that a lot of these exclusive new menu items coming out recently have led to me having accounts with almost every fast food chain in my area. But, I guess you gotta do what you gotta so you don’t miss out on these great offers.
