McDonald’s classic Big Mac is getting a new version. If you love chicken, you don’t want to miss this!
McDonald’s is known as a customer-oriented fast food chain, and once again, they’re proving it with the launch of a new menu item. Fans have been asking for it, and now, the chain is going to deliver. Get ready for the Chicken Big Mac! This crave-worthy burger is already available in other McDonald’s restaurants around the world, and the chain finally decided to let US fans have it. McDonald’s even secretly put out the new Chicken Big Mac in a Gen-Z way.

Starting October 10, 2024, the Chicken Big Mac will be available as a limited-time offer at all participating McDonald’s locations. According to the brand, this new item is a reimagined version of the Big Mac, which has been a fan-favorite since late 1960s. Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer at McDonald’s, Tariq Hassan, added that they’re excited to pay tribute to the iconic Big Mac and introduce it to the new generation. The chain’s campaign for the new burger is inspired by the interests of today’s generation, including live streaming and the dupe culture.
McDonald’s tapped Kai Cenat, an internet star, to clear the confusion around the new menu item. Recently, people have been discussing if the Chicken Big Mac is really a Big Mac. Kai will go on a livestream with his friends and share their reactions while trying the Chicken Big Mac. The chain said it will release more details about the livestream on its social media channels, so stay tuned! As described by McDonald’s the new burger features the same toppings as the original Big Mac, but the beef patties have been replaced with tempura-battered chicken patties.
As part of its campaign, McDonald’s also revealed that it was the mastermind behind the opening of a pop-up dining experience in Los Angeles, called McDonnell’s. The pop-up chain was only open for a day and it featured “The Chicken Sandwich,” with ingredients oddly similar to what you’ll find in a Chicken Big Mac. It had two chicken patties between two sesame seed buns. The patties were layered with a special sauce, pickles, lettuce, and cheese. Fans who took notice even declared McDonnell’s a McDonald’s dupe.

The Flavorful History of Big Mac
McDonald’s Big Mac isn’t your ordinary fast food item. We already said it’s an icon, but others went far and described it as a symbol of American culture. Why? It represents American globalization and frankly, it’s an ideal meal to have in a country where you go around by car. When Big Mac arrived in 1960s, it changed the fast food landscape forever.
The Big Mac was born in 1967, inspired by the double-decker burger. At that time, McDonald’s customers were mostly male workers who didn’t find the small burgers filling. The Big Mac was sold in just one store until a year later, everyone in the US could avail of the hearty meal. Fun fact: Big Mac went by other names like Aristocrat and Blue Ribbon Burger.

The Big Mac became so loved internationally but that didn’t stop McDonald’s from shaking things up. Over the years and before we get today’s Chicken Big Mac, the OG burger had different variations:
- Big Mac BLT: A version with tomato and bacon that puts a summertime twist on the classic burger.
- Mega Tamago Mac: A limited-time offer in McDonald’s Japan that includes three patties, bacon, and egg.
- Double Big Mac: Currently available in McDonald’s Canada, this version has the same ingredients but with four beef patties.
- Denali Big Mac: A version with larger beef patties, and is only available in Alaska.
- Son of Mac: Also known as Mac Jr., this version comes with just one patty and two pieces of bun.
