This year is shaping up to be an excellent year for Crumbl, with more innovative releases than ever before including the Crumbl Molten Lava Cake Recipe. This year, Crumbl has released a Tres Leche Cake and Oreo Cheesecakes, just to name a couple. What’s next for the chain? Glad you asked! Crumbl is currently testing Molten Lava Cakes topped with French Vanilla Mousse. While you can’t get your hands on it yet, we duplicated the recipe so you can be on the cutting edge of fast food fun.
This recipe features decadent chocolate cakes with a hot molten center. The cakes themselves aren’t overly sweet, allowing the French Vanilla Mousse to shine without giving you a cavity. If this recipe sounds complicated, no worries! These cakes come together in less than 30 minutes and are extremely easy to make. Try this recipe the next time you want to impress your partner or show yourself some love.
A Brief History of Lava Cakes
Lava cakes are easily one of the most intricate desserts, served in 5-star restaurants worldwide. These gooey desserts find their roots in France, where they were, as Bob Ross would say, a “happy accident.” Sources say the sous chef pulled the mini chocolate cakes from the oven too soon, but diners were actually delighted with the half-done center. We can’t blame them!
Lava cakes are considered a delicacy because of their souffle-like texture. It isn’t often you find a dessert with a crisp crust on the outside and a molten center! Though lava cakes are traditionally made with dark chocolate, you’ll find white and milk chocolate variations. This romantic dessert is a popular Valentine’s Day treat, but we think you can score extra points by learning how to make it yourself.

How to Make Crumbl Molten Lava Cake
Keep reading to learn how to make Crumbl’s Molten Lava Cakes at home.
Step One: Prepare Your Ramekins

Preheat the oven to 375℉. Lightly spray the bottoms and sides of six ramekins with cooking spray, then dust with cocoa powder. Take extra care to ensure the entire ramekin is covered so the molten lava cakes don’t stick when released.
You can also use a muffin tin to get the same results; the methodology is the same.
Step Two: Melt the Chocolate

In a small saucepan set over medium-low heat, melt the butter and chocolate until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the salt and vanilla. Set aside to let cool until it reaches room temperature.
Step Three: Whip the Eggs

Place the eggs and egg yolks in the bowl of a stand mixer and whip at high speed until they’re pale yellow.
Step Four: Add Dry Ingredients

Sift in the powdered sugar and mix until just combined. Gently fold in the chocolate mixture and flour until just combined. Do not overmix, or the cake’s texture will be affected.
Step Five: Bake the Crumbl Molten Lava Cakes

Divide the lava cake batter evenly among your ramekins or muffin tins. Bake for 11-12 minutes or until the middle of the cake feels set but still soft when you touch it with your fingertip. Do not overbake the cakes, or you won’t have the “lava” effect. Remove from the oven and let cool for two minutes.
Slide a knife or toothpick around the rim of the ramekin or muffin tin and flip upside down over a plate. Dust with powdered sugar.
Step Six: Make the French Vanilla Mousse

While the cakes are baking, make the frosting by combining the French vanilla pudding, whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla in the bowl of a stand mixer until light and fluffy. Place in the fridge to keep cool.
Once the cakes cool for 2-3 minutes, place a scoop of French Vanilla Mousse on top of the lava cake, and enjoy!
