Krispy Kreme has been making bold moves when it comes to expanding their market reach. The brand has not only been making their doughnuts available globally. They’re also changing how they move their products around the US. Earlier this year, the exciting news about the partnership between Krispy Kreme and McDonald’s was announced. This resulted in KK doughnuts being available in thousands of McDonald’s restaurants. If you’re a McDonald’s fan, you might have noticed those doughnuts already. And again, you’re in luck. Because you can claim a free delicious treat as long as you have this one thing Krispy Kreme is looking for.
Krispy Kreme is currently running a promotion that celebrates the arrival of their glazed, festive, and cream-filled doughnuts in McDonald’s stores in the Chicago area. These doughnuts will be available for sale starting October 15, 2024, but Krispy Kreme wants to thank fans early. This is why the brand is offering a free Original Glazed doughnut to anyone with a McDonald’s receipt, paper or digital, dated from October 10 to 14, 2024. Fans can claim the free item at participating Krispy Kreme locations nationwide within the same period. Just a note that there’s a limit of one glazed doughnut per customer.
The rollout of KK doughnuts in McDonald’s stores in Chicago is the first phase of a broader expansion of Krispy Kreme. By the end of 2024, the doughnut shop plans to offer its products in over 1,000 McDonald’s locations and eventually 12,000 stores by 2026. Three fan-favorite KK doughnuts will be served fresh daily at select McDonald’s stores in Chicago, until supplies last:
- Original Glazed Doughnut: This is the classic doughnut everyone loves because of its sticky deliciousness, the melt-in-your mouth texture, and of course, the brand’s signature glaze.
- Chocolate Iced Kreme Filled Doughnut: This one’s a fluffy doughnut dipped in chocolate icing. One bite gives you a chocolatey experience plus the delicious taste of Kreme filling.
- Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles Doughnut: Best for celebrating your wins, big or small, this festive donut is also dipped in chocolate icing and finished with rainbow-colored sprinkles.

Where Else Can You Find Krispy Kreme Doughnuts?
Plans have been made to expand beyond McDonald’s, so more good news are coming for KK doughnut lovers. Krispy Kreme is currently operating as the maker and distributor of its products, and it’s looking for more “hubs” or places where they could make and distribute doughnuts from. Based on recent discussions, here’s where we can expect more KK doughnuts to be available:
- Walmart: As of August 2024, Krispy Kreme sells its products in 25% of Walmart locations. However, there have been talks to take this partnership to the national level. If this pushes through, Krispy Kreme will further increase access points to its doughnuts, considering that Walmart represents a quarter of all grocery sales in the US.
- Target: In 2023, Krispy Kreme announced that it’s been testing the market’s appetite for doughnuts in Target. The test reportedly began in Dallas but the bakery company wanted it to expand to Chicago and other metro areas. The collaboration between the two brands showed promise as Target also looked for ways to show why Krispy Kreme is a premium option for its customers. Currently, no official announcement has been made about Krispy Kreme’s expansion to Target stores, but let’s hope for the best!

Latest Krispy Kreme Collections You Can’t Miss
Besides the Original Glazed Doughnuts, the limited-time collections of Krispy Kreme are worth the hype. The Barbie x Krispy Kreme collection was the prettiest that I’ve seen so far. The Dolly Southern Sweets Doughnut Collection? The tastiest this year, in my opinion. What about the spookiest and coziest? Krispy Kreme also have those, plus a value-based treat that OG glazed doughnut fans will enjoy.
The Ghostbusters Collection
This Halloween, you can add KK doughnuts to your basket full of treats! The brand released four new limited-edition doughnuts inspired by Ghostbusters. These include the Ghostbusters Cookies N’ Creme Doughnut, Slimer Doughnut, Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Pull-Aparts, and Ecto-Sprinkled Doughnut. You can order them individually or as a specialty box of 11, containing three pieces of each doughnut flavor and two pull-aparts. Availability is until Halloween only.

The Essential Pumpkin Spice Collection
If you’re more into celebrating the fall season, this collection is perfect for you! We’ve seen the Golden Harvest Collection earlier, but that’s only the beginning of the cozy Krispy Kreme experience. The brand is now offering its Essential Pumpkin Spice Collection, featuring the Pumpkin Spice Cake Doughnut and the hot, iced, and frozen variations of the Pumpkin Spice beverage. This collection is available through November 28, 2024.
For those who haven’t tried it yet, the Pumpkin Spice Cake Doughnut offers the same melt-in-your-mouth experience, but with the right amount of pumpkin spice flavor in every bite. This doughnut flavor is also sold individually and by dozen. Meanwhile, the Pumpkin Spice beverage has multiple variations to suit different tastes. It can be ordered as an iced or frozen latte, as a piping hot brewed coffee, and as an iced coffee with 2% milk.

I support Krispy Kreme‘s expansion plans 100% because more people deserve better mornings with a fresh doughnut at hand. I will never not love the Original Glazed Doughnut, so it makes me happy that it’s one of the items coming to McDonald’s stores. To me, the Krispy Kreme-McDonald’s crossover is by far the best thing that happened within the fast food universe. I’m a fan of both brands that make wonderful mornings happen.
