McDonald's Gets Ready for Halloween with the Comeback of Boo Buckets

McDonald’s gets way ahead of everyone on Halloween with the comeback of their fan favorite Buckets.

Let’s admit it, McDonald’s has never failed with their brand meal collaborations and Happy Meal collectibles, and they’re also one to deliver fun and creative campaigns in different seasons like Halloween and the Holiday season. This year, McDonald’s will also activate their fun and spooky side as they prepare for the upcoming Halloween season.

Boo Buckets are expected to make a spooky comeback at McDonald’s on Halloween this year, and they come with a fresh design that’s different from what they offered in previous years. While the actual designs are not yet confirmed, we can only hope it still carries the theme that McDonald’s has been known for- fun and creative designs that all Trick-or-Treat goers can bring and appreciate.

McDonald’s Boo Buckets typically start to be available about two weeks before Halloween, which means they should be available around October 14th or shortly after. A lot of McDonald’s fans shared their excitement about the monster designs online, but some commenters say that they may not evoke as much nostalgia like they did before. The handle design featuring the Golden Arches logo has also received positive feedback.

Even without the official designs yet, are you already planning to collect all four new Boo Buckets this Halloween?

A Look At McDonald’s Previous Halloween Buckets

McDonald’s is not playing games when it comes to their seasonal celebrations, and the fast food giant proves that fun and creativity are always present in their stores, especially on holidays.

Halloween was always celebrated at McDonald’s. Their Halloween Pails started in 1986, with some skips in yearly releases, until they came to a six-year hiatus in 2016. Thankfully, it came back in 2022. For two years, McDonald’s has continued to offer their Boo Buckets, including last Halloween, which just proves that some Halloween traditions should never have gone away. This 2024, even if the designs for the new Boo Buckets are not yet revealed, let’s quickly take a step back and reminisce about some iconic McDonald’s Halloween Pails that we all grew up with.

McDonald’s Halloween Pails (1986)

It all started with McDonald’s first Halloween Pails released in 1986. These orange buckets came in a variety of three designs: McPunk’n, a classic jack-o-lantern face; McBoo, a ghost face; and McGoblin, the spookiest design of the three. Of course, one design came together with the Halloween Pumpkin Happy Meal back then.

Now, this is where it got a bit messy. Back in 1991, McDonald’s Halloween Pails were replaced by McBoo Bags, which are glow-in-the-dark trick-or-treat vinyl bags, and received a lot of mixed reactions. The Halloween Bucket lovers were not pleased with this new replacement, to say the least. There were a lot of reactions, particularly on how the handles were flimsy, but they still served their purpose during Trick-or-Treats.

McDonald’s Halloween Boo Buckets (2023)

37 years since McDonald’s released their Halloween Buckets, they’ve proven that their designs still carry the same fun and creative theme we’ve known and loved since childhood. The latest installment of the Halloween Buckets came through last year, with another makeover with Boo Buckets. It came in a variety of four designs and colors, with a plastic material, far from the paper buckets and the vinyl bags we’ve known in the past.

From The Club

Fall hasn’t even started but I’m already excited for McDonald’s Halloween Boo Buckets! Designs aren’t out yet, but I’m already thrilled with the thought of collecting all four buckets with my nephew. And, of course, that I can go Trick-or-Treatin’ with him when Halloween comes. Boo Buckets should really be a regular Halloween thing at McDonald’s, this tradition is timeless and for any one who enjoys collecting merchandise and Halloween parties. I really hope there’ll be no more hiatuss and more designs will be explored soon!
