When you see a full moon in the dark sky, it’s usually a belief that there will be harvest, transformation, or something unfortunate like an accident. But with Krispy Kreme, it’s a once-in-a-blue-moon doughnut.
If you haven’t heard it, the Hunter’s Supermoon will be visible on Thursday (October 17). It will be the closest that the moon will be seen on Earth, making it appear super large.
The full moon has been tied with werewolves like those scary old movies have shown us. They’re supposed to howl loudly, showing countless picturesque scenes of a howling werewolf standing on a rock with a full moon background. Krispy Kreme is about to bring us a doughnut worth howling for, and no, they’re not made for werewolves.
Mark your calendars as this Thursday, October 17, Krispy Kreme is releasing their Supermoon Super Doughnut for one day only to celebrate the Supermoon. This cosmic treat is inspired by the bigger, brighter supermoon. It features an unglazed doughnut base with Cookies & Kreme filling. It is dipped in yellow icing and swirled with chocolate cookie pieces.
Customers can choose to purchase the doughnuts individually or as a Supermoon Super Doughnuts specialty dozen. It contains six Supermoon Super Doughnuts and six Original Glazed doughnuts. They’re available for pickup or delivery via Krispy Kreme’s website or app while supplies last.
Dave Skena, Global Chief Brand Officer of Krispy Kreme, invites fans to go outside on Thursday night to see the moon. To make things sweeter, Skena suggested fans get their Supermoon Super Doughnuts to share while the Hunter’s Supermoon is making an appearance here on Earth.

More Cosmo-Related Doughnuts From Krispy Kreme
Since Krispy Kreme has prided itself on being the ultimate sweet snack stop for the family, they’re always present in every family gathering, including the viewing of Hunter’s Supermoon on Thursday.
Krispy Kreme is known to have celebrated space-related events with their doughnut treats. It traces back to 1969 when they served fresh, Original Glazed doughnuts at the launch viewing site of NASA’s Apollo 11 mission to the moon.
This is not the first time that Krispy Kreme has unveiled their Cosmo-related doughnuts. They’re known to release one every space-related event on Earth, and here’s some that you probably miss:
Total Star Eclipse Doughnut
Krispy Kreme came out with the Total Star Eclipse Doughnut for the eclipse that dawned in early April. It features an unglazed doughnut base that is dipped in black chocolate icing decorated with silver sparkles. It is finished off with a piped buttercream made with Oreo pieces and a whole Oreo cookie in the center.
Artemis Moon Doughnut
Going back a few years, in 2022, Krispy Kreme introduced the Artemis Moon Doughnut. This release is in celebration of the launch of Artemis I, the first of NASA’s complex missions to enable space exploration. Included in this mission is humanity’s next big leap: sending the first astronauts to planet Mars.
With this, Krispy Kreme is bringing an Artemis Moon-inspired treat that features a Cheesecake Kreme-filled doughnut that is dipped in Cookies and Kreme icing. Like the Supermoon Super Doughnut, it is offered for one day only.
Strawberry Supermoon Doughnut
A supermoon took place last June 2021, so expect Krispy Kreme to bring a supermoon-inspired doughnut called Strawberry Supermoon Doughnut. The doughnut celebrates June’s full moon in what other culture calls the Strawberry Moon since it falls during the strawberry harvesting season in the northeastern part of the U.S.
This Strawberry Supermoon treat features a doughnut base dipped in Strawberries and Kreme icing and is filled with Strawberry Kreme. For a little dash of moon dust, graham cracker dust is added on top of the doughnut.
Mars Doughnut
Last February 2021, Mars has landed to Krispy Kreme for the Mars Doughnut. This treat is unveiled in celebration of NASA’s Perseverance Rover that landed on planet Mars. Would you believe that the Perseverance has traveled over 292.5 million miles? That is equivalent to at least a year of traveling! Now, that is one successful mission worth celebrating!
With this, Krispy Kreme brought the Mars doughnut for fans to have a bite on. It features a Chocolate Kreme-filled doughnut that is dipped in caramel icing. The doughnut is decorated with a red planet swirl and sprinkled with chocolate cookie crumbs.
Krispy Kreme’s Fall Flavors
Moving on to the seasons here on planet Earth, we have the Fall which we are currently under now. Of course, Krispy Kreme also has something in store for the fall season! Introducing the Golden Harvest Collection, which features new fall flavors of three new doughnuts and a returning fan favorite:
- Maple Buttercream Doughnut – A classic fall treat that features a Krispy Kreme Original Glazed base topped with maple-flavored buttercream and fall sprinkles. This is perfect for when you’re craving something extra sweet.
- Oatmeal Kreme Pie Doughnut – Enjoy this unglazed doughnut filled with White Kreme and dipped in cookie dough icing. This doughnut is finished off with a streusel topper and a dollop of White Kreme. The doughnut even comes with a bonus mini oatmeal cookie to complete the flavor.
- Salted Caramel Cheesecake Doughnut – For salted caramel lovers, here’s a Krispy Kreme treat for you. It features an Original Glazed doughnut base topped with a swirl of cream cheese buttercream. It is filled with dulce de leche with a sprinkle of salted caramel crunch.
In addition to these new flavors, Krispy Kreme is also bringing back the Spiced Apple Filled Doughnut featuring a cinnamon sugar doughnut with a spiced apple filling.

From The Club
To be honest, I’m only a fan of Krispy Kreme’s Original Glazed doughnuts, as the flavored ones didn’t really work on my tastebuds. But I guess trying them once again might make me love them. I assume that I didn’t give myself a chance to try the flavored ones as I’m always ordering a dozen full of Original Glazed. Maybe the Supermoon Super Doughnut might make me change my mind.
