Walmart Shoppers May Be Eligible for up to $500 in New Lawsuit

People who shop at Walmart might have a chance to get some money back. They have until June 5 to join a lawsuit.

There’s an old TV show where a character makes a joke about cheating customers by making their meat purchases seem heavier than they are. While it was just a joke on TV, there’s a real-life situation at Walmart that’s no laughing matter. They’re accused of making the weight of meat and bagged citrus look more than they are, so customers pay more.

Walmart’s $45 Million Class Action Lawsuit

Walmart is part of a big lawsuit where they’ve agreed to pay $45 million without saying they did anything wrong. The lawsuit said that Walmart let people buy groceries that were heavier on the sticker than they really were, especially when these items were on sale.

Who Can Join the Lawsuit

If you bought certain items with a special barcode at Walmart, like meat, poultry, pork, seafood, or bagged organic fruit like oranges or grapefruit, between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024, you can be part of the lawsuit. You can check here for more details on what products are included.

How to Join the Lawsuit

If you think you should be in the lawsuit and Walmart hasn’t told you, you can sign up online. You can still join even without a receipt. People with receipts can get back 2 percent of what they spent, up to $500. Without a receipt, you can get $10 for claiming up to 50 items, and up to $25 if you claim more than 101 items.

The last day to filling application for the lawsuit is June 5 and there will be a court meeting on June 12, 2024, to see if everything is okay with the lawsuit.

Keep this in mind if you’re a Walmart shopper who bought these kinds of things during those dates. You might be eligible for a part of the settlement.
